Today is Day #2 of Armchair BEA 2011! (Not sure what that means? Check out the Armchair BEA site for details.) It’s my first year participating. Today’s topic is: Giveaways Galore, and/or the Best of 2011. (There are lots of giveaways happening throughout Armchair BEA, but especially today. Check out the Armchair BEA site to see them all!)

I couldn’t choose which topic for the day I wanted to write about, so I decided to combine them: I’m giving away a copy of my favorite book of 2011, which is…

The Bee-Loud Glade by Steve Himmer!

The Bee-Loud Glade by Steve Himmer (cover)The Bee-Loud Glade is my favorite new book of 2011 so far. I would love for more people to read it. It’s about a man named Finch. When we meet Finch, he’s an aging hermit. But soon he begins to tell the story of how he ended up where he is. It’s clever and entertaining and intriguing, deftly mixing a bizarre but absorbing storyline with a wonderful main character and plenty to think about. It utterly delighted me, and I’d like to share that with one of you. (Interested in reading more? Check out my original review.)

The Bee-Loud Glade was published in April by Atticus Books. (Isn’t the cover cool??)

To enter, just leave me a comment with a way to contact you if you win as well as a bit about your favorite 2011 release so far. If you haven’t read any books published in 2011, you can tell me about a book you’re anxiously awaiting. The fine print:

  • One entry per person.
  • The Bee-Loud Glade (paperback) will be coming from the Book Depository, so as long as they ship to your country, you’re invited to enter!
  • Giveaway runs from now until 10pm EST tomorrow night (Wednesday).
  • Winner will be chosen by random drawing.
  • Winner will be contacted when the contest closes and announced on Erin Reads Thursday morning. If I don’t hear back in within 24 hours of posting, I’ll pick a new winner.

  6. You sold me. I want to read this book.

Just blogged about my favorite 2011 book so far (actually the only 2011 book I’ve read so far, but I do love it): A YA novel called The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M Valente (illustrations by Ana Juan)

  7. i haven’t read anything released in 2011 yet (since i’m usually behind the curve), but i think i’m most looking forward to a BEA book that i found called Heart of Iron: My Journey From Transplant Patient to Ironman Triathlete by Kyle Garlett. i’m a hobby triathlete and i’ve followed Garlett’s story for a couple years before learning that he would be at BEA this year promoting his book (so so wish i was there!).

i have seen a few other reviews for this book and it sounds really interesting. thanks for the giveaway!

  10. One of my favorites for 2011 is Deadbeat by author Brian Smith and Faith by Michelle Larks. she has a wonderful way of writing christian fiction without it sounding preachy as i’ve heard others say. lol. thanks for the giveaway. email is in reply

  11. I haven’t heard of this one, but since you recommend it, I’ll be happy to enter the giveaway and check it out! As for favorite 2011 release, it is The Good Daughter by Jasmin Darznik (a nonfiction biography of the author’s mother) – it’s such a beautiful read!

  12. What a great choice for this giveaway.
I put this book on my wish list after reading your review!
I read a few books released in 2011, though none of them are my 2011 favorites. Still, I just received (from the Book Depository) The Raising by Laura Kasischke, released in March 2011, which I am very anxious to read !

  13. My favorite release this year so far is How to Survive a Killer Seance by Penny Warner. It’s set in the Winchester mystery house in San Jose.

In 2009 I decided to step away reviewing for publishers and publicists. I felt like I was losing my focus and drifting from my mission statement of sharing the joys of reading. Call it taking a librarian’s approach to blogging. Come see what I mean.

  14. I have a few favorites, including Matt Bell’s How They Were Found, Alan Heathcock’s Volt, and Patrick Somerville’s the Universe in Miniature. Have heard good things about Bee-Loud Glade, sounds like a good one ๐Ÿ˜€

  15. I am in the middle of Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris and loving it.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  19. My favorite 2011 release is Daughter of Xanadu by Dori Jones Yang. While being historically accurate and highly entertaining, Daughter of Xanadu is also a thought-provoking novel. It questions the act of waging a war simply because of one man’s aspiration to be the supreme world ruler.
