The Sunday Salon.comWe’ve reached the end of yet another month! Here’s what my September looked like:

Books

Looking Back: September Badge

Total books read: 6
Total pages read: 1, 749
Favorite book: I actually really enjoyed all six of the books I read this month and rated them all the same on Goodreads. But if I had to choose one, Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh probably had a tiny edge.
Least favorite book: none, see above!

Audiobooks

Total audiobooks listened to: 6
Total hours listened: 59 hours, 21 minutes (the most so far this year!)
Favorite audiobook: the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik (I listened to books 2-5 this month, read by Simon Vance)

  1. September was my slowest reading month of the year – I blame having to finish my dissertation! But hopefully I’ll make up for the lost time in October. I’m off to a great start with the new Jeffrey Eugenides 😀

Isn’t Temeraire great? I didn’t try the audio versions, but the books are among my favourites of the year.

    1. I think that’s a pretty good reason to not get a ton of reading done! I’m anxious to hear how the new Eugenides novel is. I’m just starting Middlesex for this month’s Reading Buddies book, and I can already tell I’ll want to read more.

I’m loving Temeraire! A woman I used to work with recommended them to me over and over, but I never picked them up until a couple of months ago. If you ever want to reread, check out the audio books. They could not be more perfect!

  2. You have had quite the busy month! I can’t wait to finally be able to pick back up my reading now that we have finally settled in Va Beach – no more moving! I just started reading Me Again by Keith Cronin and I’ve really taken to it so far. A change from my spooky reads this month, but it’s nice to change it up every now and again.

    1. It’ll be so nice for you to be all settled in! I’m glad you’ve got a book going you’re enjoying. I’ve been avoiding spooky reads but recently started listening to Dracula, and I’m surprised to find I’m enjoying it! For me, that’s changing it up. I’m usually not a scary book fan 🙂

  3. It looks like September has been a good month for you. It’s always nice to have a month where you really enjoy everything you read! I still haven’t read Sea of Poppies but I hope to get round to it eventually.

    1. Definitely! It’s rare I enjoy so many of my books. Sea of Poppies started slow for me, but by the end, I was ready to pick up the sequel.

    1. I think it’s more important to read books you enjoy than to read a ton of books. Isn’t it nice when you have the problem of liking all your books so much you can’t pick a favorite?

  4. Oh, and here I was thinking, “see? Erin only read 6 books this month; there’s no reason to feel like a slow reader.” 🙁 Maybe I should listen to audio books too. 😉

    1. Haha…yeah. I love audiobooks because they really do almost double the number of books I get through, at least now, when I have lots of time to listen!

  5. Every time I see how many audiobooks you listen to, I think that I too should give them a try. But they really only work for me on car rides where I’m driving or when I’m working out (and I really don’t do that as much as I should).

    1. They work really well for me because I spend a lot of time doing mindless things. If I were a full time student, or had kids, or something like that, I wouldn’t be able to get through so many. But, right now, they almost double the number of books I get through, so I’ll keep enjoying them!

  6. I actually just bought Sea of Poppies after reading your wrap-up post and am looking forward to getting started with it. I am also impressed by the number of audios you have listened to as well! I am in the middle of two right now. I am listening to The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks on my own, and sharing The Last Werewolf with my husband. I am hoping to finish at least one in the next couple of weeks! I hope that you have a great reading month in October!

    1. I hope you enjoy Sea of Poppies! I’m seriously considering picking up the sequel. I’ll look forward to your thoughts. I loved The Immortal Life on audio! How cool that you can share an audiobook with your husband. Mine will tolerate a nonfiction audiobook on long car trips if I insist, but he doesn’t really enjoy them. I hope your October is excellent, too!

  7. I can’t wait for the Readathon! Hopefully nothing conflicts.

My September? Was hectic! You know… because I had finals and then immediately packed up and moved. 🙂

    1. Wheee, me neither! I love the Readathon! What? Finals and moving, hectic? 🙂 I’m glad you’re settled in now (or getting there). Here’s to a calmer October!

    1. He’s fantastic, isn’t he?? I’ve just discovered how good he is, but now I want to listen to everything he’s read.

    1. Oh, yeah, that balances out 🙂 As cool as it is to read a ton of books, I think it’s more important to love the ones you do read.

  8. How cool that you liked all of the books you read last month! I love it when that happens. I haven’t counted up my totals yet, but I did like most of the books that I read.

    1. I know, it’s so rare and yet so cool when it happens! I hope your month ends up having been a good one by the numbers.

  9. September seems to have flown by. I just got The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland on audio this weekend at the library. However, I am saving it for the readathon. I am really excited for October. So many fun things happening. 🙂

    1. Ooh, that one could be really fun on audio. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it! Such willpower, to save it for the Readathon 🙂

  10. I really need to get to Sea of Poppies soon; it seems to be one of those that every one enjoys. I’m looking forward to the Readathon and signed up to cheer. Question for you – can I split my three hours into three separate hours so I can use it for a break from reading?

    1. It ended up being really good. I hope you get to it soon and enjoy it! Thanks for signing up to cheer! You can definitely split your time up. If you know when you might cheer ahead of time (split or in a block), you can let Trish and/or me know, but if not, that’s totally fine, too. We can always use cheerleaders, for any time.

    1. I’m glad you’re squealing, because I totally am, too! I’m plotting my pile as well. Just picked up one from the library today. So excited 😀
